Glaass Update 1.0Read more >
The last quarter has been an extraordinarily busy period for our startup setting up bank accounts, drafting legal documents and finalising development. As we lead into 2016 we’re working harder to deliver state of the art construction management software to help companies collaborate better. Since conceiving the idea over two years ago, we’ve celebrated achievements, faced challenges and grown as a team. It has been an incredible journey for everyone involved and we’re truly excited for what the future holds. Welcome to Glaass Update 1.0, everything about where we are.
The Feature Construction has been waiting forRead more >
Throughout the journey of developing Glaass, we’ve placed continual emphasis on updating and refining our products feature set in pursuit of perfection. We’ve reworked entire revisions to deliver this promise. Yet during this time we’ve maintained a mindset to create tools designed for all construction professions. It was clear from the beginning we wanted a platform that enhanced the workflow of foreman, engineers and project manager’s. As construction professionals we understand these roles and their functions acutely, allowing us to critically examine their deficiencies.
An Insight into a StartupRead more >
Launching a startup is unlike any other challenge a person can undertake. It’s an incredibly unique and abstract landscape to work in; like a rollercoaster, filled with ups and downs. Conceiving an idea and hustling to create a business from little or no resources requires a special type of passion and skill set. Having the drive to push through the tough times and the ability to create opportunities when they seem inconceivable is what makes or breaks a startup.
Habituation in ConstructionRead more >
I recently learned about the human phenomena called habituation, it’s a process in the brain that encodes everyday recurring tasks into habits. Our brains do this so that we don’t notice the more tedious elements in our lives whilst freeing up space to acquire new information. Habituation occurs in all aspects of our lives, from work tasks to chores at home and even driving our car. Without habituation we would be irritated by the same issues every day, so it’s an important function!
Innovating Paper Based SystemsRead more >
When analysing the construction industry as a global microcosm, you see it’s an ecosystem riddled by paper systems to manage everything from quality assurance to document and drawing dissemination. Need another system? No problem, just add paper. It’s an outdated attitude that’s driving our team of passionate professionals to change the face of construction forever. Regardless of a projects size, geographical location or engineering application, teams too readily rely upon paper.
The Unimportance of FeaturesRead more >
As we work through our seventh prototype release, we are slowly transitioning out of a feature orientated phase, and into one that is focused on integrated functionality. Creating enterprise software is a fine balance between a products feature set, and incorporated functionality of those features. Although these terms sound similar, their real world application is vastly different. Features are ‘a distinctive attribute or aspect of something’ whereas functionality is ‘the quality of being suited to serve a purpose well, practically’ (Oxford Dictionary, 2015).
How Perfectionists DesignRead more >
When we founded Glaass we challenged ourselves to design construction software the way it should have been – functional, accountable, fast and exceptionally easy to use. We want users to love the Glaass experience whereby our products integrally lead project teams to success. When we began designing Glaass some 18 months ago, we stepped back and asked ourselves why? What has driven us to create software systems? We came up with two simple answers:
Top 5 Issues in Construction!Read more >
Exasperated by the absence of effective construction management software within the industry was a driving factor in founding Glaass. In this blog I’ll tell you five of the most maddening issues that exist within the building game!
The Challenges of Software DesignRead more >
One of the greatest hurdles in undertaking any significant project is arguably the blank, deserted canvas staring you down upon starting. It’s where procrastination commonly roots its evil. Whether you’re writing an essay, creating artwork or building software, as in our case, you’ll likely face the same issue – where to start? Having a great idea or a meticulously structured business plan often isn’t a saviour in these early stages. The best method in combatting early phase problems is creating mock-ups, drafts, sketches, diagrams and charts; anything to get the ideas flowing.
Combating Resistance to ChangeRead more >
Most organisations, regardless of their practical application, face the requirement to change at some point. Change is a necessary tool to overcome business inabilities; whether that’s applying new technologies or adapting to an evolving financial environment, it’s purpose remains the same. What might not be so apparent is that the employees within these organisations aren’t so fond of the repercussions that change can bring. Shifting business procedures delivers opportunity, and, a degree of uncertainty.
